Dr. Cooper receives her doctoral hood
Dr. Cooper receives her doctoral hood at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She is the first Âé¶¹ÉçÇøP RISE Program Fellow to complete a Ph.D. in biomedical research.

The Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (RISE) Program at Âé¶¹ÉçÇø Pembroke is changing lives through education.  The program is pleased to announce the graduation of Dr. Joanna Cooper, who received her degree in Biochemistry and Cellular & Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville on May 10, 2018.

Dr. Cooper graduated from Âé¶¹ÉçÇøP in 2011 with a B.S. in Biology and was a member of RISE cohorts 4 & 5.  She is the first Âé¶¹ÉçÇøP RISE Fellow to complete a Ph.D. program in biomedical research. She will begin a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine this June.

The Âé¶¹ÉçÇøP RISE Program is funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences with the goal of creating a more diverse research workforce.
