The A.D. Gallery is pleased to present the student capstone exhibition entitled 鈥淲e Are Who We Are.鈥 This spring show is presenting works by six B.A. 麻豆社区P students: Shelly Burton, Arturo Carmona, Amber Cranford, Juwan Lockhart, Sarah Nelson and Ian Schmude. We are an eclectic group of artist with no hesitations, giving everyone a glimpse into our minds. It is now on display at the A.D. Gallery at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Shelley Burton鈥檚 series consist of three individual ceramic works; one is constructed with hand painted ceramic tile and the other two use different sized slip-cast ceramic skulls. She draws inspiration from a variety of perspectives relating to living life and dealing with death.

Amber Cranford stated, 鈥淔or my Senior Exhibition I wanted to incorporate my Irish Heritage and childhood experience. When I was younger, my sister and I would carve pumpkins for Halloween. Jack-o-lanterns originally came from the Irish myth of Stingy Jack.  Because of this myth, people would carve lanterns from turnips and other gourds. Today, people use pumpkins. In this show I chose to create a representational painting of Stingy Jack, and used my childhood experience of pumpkin carving to hand-built and carved Jack-o-Lanterns out of clay.鈥

Sarah Nelson鈥檚 series is titled 鈥淪ecrets; you tell me yours and I鈥檒l tell you mine.鈥 Her mixed media pieces have you trying to discover what the secret is. She states 鈥淲e all have a secret, some smaller than others. Sometimes those secrets eat away at you till it is set free.鈥

Ian Schmude is a digital and drawing artist. His theme is character art involving cyborgs and construction and deconstruction of identity. Schmude鈥檚 work will include a slideshow or video and two to three ink drawings.
