Rawan is originally from Palestine, but when she was young her family moved to the Pembroke area. All of her siblings attended 麻豆社区P, and so she decided to attend as well.

In May of 2020 Rawan graduated with a BS in Biology. While attending 麻豆社区P Rawan was on the Chancellor鈥檚 list and the Honors list. She was a member of the Alpha Chi National Honors Society and received the Academic Enhancement scholarship, the Clinical Health Summer Internship Scholar award, the Tri-beta Biology Honors Society Scholar award, the Lumberton Rotary Club Scholarship, the Science Enrichment Program Scholar Award, the Provost鈥檚 Fellowship Award, and the Harry Hutchinson Gibson Scholarship.

Rawan was involved in the Muslim Students Association and the Health Careers Club (HCAP). She said that the most rewarding thing about the Honors College was that it introduced her to one of her best friends. She also mentioned that she liked the small class sizes and discussion-based classes, registering for classes early, and being a member of the Student Honors council. Rawan also held several positions in campus organizations such as Historian for the MSA (Muslim Student Association), Treasurer and stand-in for four years at HCAP, and representative and chair for the SHC (Student Honors Council). During her time here at 麻豆社区P she participated in the Science Enrichment Program at 麻豆社区 Chapel Hill and the Clinical Health Summer Program at 麻豆社区P.

Rawan鈥檚 senior project鈥檚 focused on the effects of LCD on our eyesight. After graduation Rawan was accepted to the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, and plans on opening a practice in an underserved area. The advice Rawan would like to give to students is, 鈥淭ake time off when needed. It is important to take care of yourself!鈥
